Our
vision...
We strongly believe in the important
value of active social participation. We feel that operating
in Africa solely for the sake of money is immoral and shortsighted
and thus we are very actively involved in various areas of
the African society:
1: In our own district, we are active
members of the Matzikama Tourism Board and Koos Greeff represented
the town of Klawer on this board for a number of years. We
are also involved with a development program in and around
Klawer.
2: In Namibia, the Chabura Trust is
involved in Social Development in the northern areas of Namibia
as well as the southern areas of Angola. We have been actively
involved with this trust since its birth in 1989 - actually,
Koos initiated this trust. Our involvement includes serving
on the board of trustees, offering training courses free of
charge, helping with self-help projects, looking for donors,
taking groups of donors or other interested people there,
supplying of food, medicine, clothing, training material etc.
This also involves close contact with people living in the
deep rural areas of Namibia and making use of their services
with our productions.
3: During 1984, Koos became involved
with a group of Angolan refugees receiving medical treatment
in a hospital. This involvement culminated in him visiting
them during 1988 in their settlement called “Buffalo”
on the Okavango River in the Caprivi Strip of Namibia. In
August 2000, Koos visited the same area again and met various
leaders for a three-day conference on sustainable development.
Also during 2000, Koos visited another Angolan Refugee Camp
called “Osire” about 250 km north of Windhoek
and immediately saw the tremendous need there. (This camp
became well known later on in that year when Angelina Jolie
also visited it)
We arranged for various donations of
training material, food, medicine and clothing and personally
delivered it to these areas. We also traveled to Osire three
times to assist in the training of leaders. Since peace came
to Angola, most of these people have been repatriated. Through
the services of Chabura Trust, we manage to keep contact with
them and at present are in the process of implementing various
development projects in Angola.
4: Since the late 1990’s, we became
aware of the desperate situation in Malawi and Mozambique.
This culminated in us visiting Malawi and meeting some of
the leaders from both Malawi and Mozambique in May of 1998.
We became involved with some of the Development Projects that
are currently running in both of these countries. These activities
are more or less concentrated around the hospital and staff
at Nkoma in Malawi, Vila Ulongwe and Milange in Mozambique.
We are in regular contact with various people working in these
areas and are privileged to help them in many ways.
We feel that continuation is
of vital importance. We do not agree at all with the idea
to do a production in a tribal area and then just leave these
people. Since our very first production in 1989, we have managed
to maintain contact with the people involved. So much of Africa
suffered under the colonial idea of just "mining"
or "reaping" without "ploughing" anything
of permanence back. Al of us here at Africa Productions is
true Africans and we believe in the African dream of a "Renaissance"
of Africa. Thus, the bottom line of our philosophy is sustainability
and accountability.
